of Kadoka, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City at the age of 93
Violet Rose Sharp was born April 5, 1916, on her parents’ homestead at Norris, South Dakota, the fourth of five children born to Charley and Minnie (Rohm) Sharp. She lived through the depression years where she learned sharing, hard work, and appreciation of people. The family milked cows , raised a big garden, hauled water with a stonebolt from a well a mile from home to cook and wash clothes. Her family was kind and thoughtful, everyone was welcome at their home to eat and sleep. Even though they were poor, they were rich in kindness. Vi carried that philosophy through her life. Love and kindness was her “motto”, which she taught to all her grandchildren, and they have learned well.
Violet was united in marriage to Bryan Everett Marlow on September 1, 1937, in Rapid City. They raised two sons Lyle and Marv. She and Bryan owned and operated several cafes in Kadoka, and she worked as a waitress in many cafes over the years, where she kept everything immaculate. Vi boarded children, whom she loved each and every one very much, and kept in touch with them yet. She cooked for several years making delicious meals for W.A.V.I. and retired at 85 years of age.
Survivors include her son Marvin of Rapid City; his daughters Misti Becker and her husband Brent and their daughter Brooke; Bobbie Blumer and her husband Chad and their daughter Makenzie; Michelle Bilger and her husband Wade and their children Kiersten, Jaedyn, and Laicey; and grandson Lee McCurrin; daughter in-law Kay Marlow of Orlando, Florida; and grandchildren Steve Marlow and his wife Kerry and their son Tyler; Tom Marlow and his son Matthew; Shaan Jensen and her husband Scott and their daughter Adrienne; Reeni Davis and her husband Jimmie and their daughters Jasmine and Melody; and Wendi Marlow and children Channing, Austin, Tanner, and Maddie; one sister Eva Holcomb of The Dalles, Oregon; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband Bryan Everett Marlow on September 27, 1978; her son Lyle Marlow; one sister Lois Stone; and two brothers Dwight Sharp and Lester Sharp.
