In memory of

Evelyn Falzone

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 88

Evelyn D. Hoffman was born April 21, 1921, at Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Philamena (Lahner) Hoffman. She grew up and received her education in the Ft. Pierre community.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Mauriece Falzone on May 14, 1938, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pierre. They made their home in Pierre until moving onto his parents’ homestead near Milesville, South Dakota, in the fall of 1941. They farmed and ranched their until Mauriece’s death on July 7, 1997.
Evelyn continued to reside on the farm ranch until moving into Philip on June 21, 2002.
Evelyn was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milesville, as well as the Altar Society.
Grateful for having shared her life include her two sons Jerry Falzone and his wife Arlene of Osakis, Minnesota, and Floren Falzone and his wife Debbie of Philip; one daughter Sharon Colburn and her husband Larry of Elk, Washington; five grandchildren Dorrine Husum and her husband Rock, Michael Falzone and his wife Tonya, Matthew Falzone and his wife Carrie, Bart Colburn, and Lance Falzone and his wife Erin; twelve great-grandchildren Jeremy, Stephanie, Jessica, Chase, Sierra, Breann, Riley, Marchello, Allison, Harlie, Chaeli, and Cason; one sister Rita Noonan of Burbank, California; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband Mauriece, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers Lawrence, Joseph, Martin and Paul Hoffman; and two sisters Frances Keeley and Margaret Harty. 
Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip, with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Ron Garry as celebrant.
Interment will be in the Masonic Cemetery.
A memorial is established.

  • Dear Flo and Debbie,
    Our hearts our forever with you in all your joys and sadness but especially at this time as you say a sudden goodbye to one so special to you.
    Evelyn's dry sense of humor was a joy to know and brightened up many a long night shifts.
    Know that we'll be thinking of and praying for you in the too busy days ahead and in the months to come as sweet memories come up at the strangest moments. Mostly they bring smiles but, sometimes tears accompany them.

  • My husband and I send our condolences at the passing of a wonderful lady. She was my godmother and always an inspiration to me. Jerry and I remember fondly the visit they made to our home in Houston. Maurice played the harmonica for us, giving us a wonderful memory of their visit.

We remember seeing Mauriece and Evelyn sitting at the Ridge having a cup of joe before getting in the old blue Volkswagen (or any of the other number of cool cars) to head home!   • I enjoyed Evelyn so much when I helped to care for her at Silverleaf. Had fun playing cards and scrabble with her. I have missed her since I quit working there.You must know she is winning all the slots now and probably still having fun playing cards. Hope she has someone playing with her still that loves it as much as her and keeping her in line. We will miss her. Sorry I cannot attend the services. I will always remember her.
