of Philip, South Dakota, died on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Philip Nursing Home in Philip at the age of 98
Pearl Reimers Couch was born August 1, 1911, to Henry and Mary (Hansen) Reimers on a farm near Correctionville, Iowa. In 1912, she moved with her parents, brothers, and sisters to a farm near Hartley, Iowa. She grew up there and received her education in rural schools in that community. In 1927, her parents and some of the children moved to a ranch in Haakon County, seven miles north and two miles west of Philip.
Pearl was united in marriage to E. Stanley Couch on April 2, 1932, and to this union four children were born. The family lived northeast of Philip for a few years and then moved in to Philip where she made her home.
Pearl worked for several years for Philip Lumber Company and then was Register of Deeds for Haakon County for 18 years. She sold her home in 1998 and moved to the Senechal Apartments. In 2005 she moved to the Silverleaf Assisted Living and in 2006 she moved to the Philip Nursing Home.
Pearl was a member of the United Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Bad River Senior Citizens Center and the Progressive Club, all of Philip.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Beverly Jahner and her husband Cork, of Kerrville, Texas; a niece, Wilma Reese of Primghar, IA; nephew, Jim Moriarty of Philip; a daughter-in-law, Kay Couch of Philip; three grandchildren, Kay (Bill) Anderson and Keith Jahner of Rapid City and David Jahner of Decatur, GA; two step-grandchildren, Rick (Sherry) Mowell of Spearfish and Debbie Hanrahan of Philip; six great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley in 1981; a son, Ronald in 1993; a son and daughter in infancy; her parents, eleven brothers and sisters; two nephews, Tom Moriarty and Dale Hansen, and a step-grandson, Craig Hanrahan.
Visitation was held 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday March 16, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip and one hour before the services on Wednesday.
Funeral service were held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday March 17, at the United Church in Philip, with Pastor Kathy Chesney officiating.
Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery of Philip.
A memorial is established.
