of Midland, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at his home at the age of 81
LaVern August Peters was given life by his Creator and was born on the family farm December 30, 1928, the child of Edward and Elsie (Dahlke) Peters. On April 28, 1929, he was reborn as a child of God in the waters of Holy Baptism at St. Peter Lutheran Church. He publicly confessed his faith, was confirmed, and began receiving the precious gift of the Lord’s life-giving body and blood in 1944.
He graduated from Okaton High School in 1948 and proudly served his country during the Korean War aboard the USS Walke from 1951-1954. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he returned to the family farm where he farmed and ranched until his death.
On June 8, 1969, he was united in holy marriage to Delores Canney. They were granted 41 years of married life together. He was blessed with the gift of three children.
On December 14, 2010, LaVern August Peters fell asleep in Jesus on the family farm where he was born 81 years earlier. He is survived by his wife, Delores; a daughter, Heidi (Matt) Fredericksen of Highland, IL; two sons, James Peters of Okaton, SD and Jerry (Courtney) Peters of Wannaska, MN; one grandson, Samuel Fredericksen; two brothers, Howard and David; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Arlene Lei.
Visitation was held 5-7 p.m. CST on Friday, December 17, at St. Peter Lutheran Church south of Midland.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. CST on Saturday, December 18, at the church in with Pastor Glenn Denke officiating.
Interment with military honors was at the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery.
A memorial is established.
