of Midland, South Dakota, died on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 88
Pauline Elizabeth Petoske was born April 7, 1923, at Capa, South Dakota, the daughter of Peter and Addie (Thomas) Petoske. She attended the Rolling Green grade school at Stanley County and high school at Capa before graduating from Midland High School in 1943.
Pauline was united in marriage to Robert L. (Bob) Marrington on June 3, 1944 in Philip. They made their home on a farm-ranch near Milesville for a year before moving into Philip. After a couple years they moved to a ranch near Milesville where they lived until the late 1940’s when they moved to a ranch north of Midland. In 1954 they moved onto Pauline’s parents’ homestead located seventeen miles northeast of Midland, They continued to farm and ranch the homestead until their retirement in 1989. In 1989 they moved into Midland.
After her husband Robert’s death on July 9, 2003, she continued to make her home in Midland.
Pauline was a member of St. William’s Catholic Church, the Midland Senior Citizens, the Birthday Club and the Victory Club all of Midland. Pauline loved to cook and she will be remembered for her wonderful meals that she loved to prepare for family and friends. She enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts, embroidering and making plastic canvas which she sold at a craft shop. She sold Avon for many years. Her flower and vegetable gardens were enjoyable past times for her. She loved listening to music and dancing.
Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Robert D. Marrington and his wife, Susan of Riverton, WY; two daughters , Dianna Dinsmore of Midland, and Dena Merchen of Powder Springs, Georgia; five grandchildren and her six great-grandsons; Chad Marrington , Amy Jones and her two sons, Kayson and Daxton; Deborah Snook and her husband, Gary and their sons, Gavin and Garrett; Matthew Eldridge and his wife, Amy and their two sons Jesse and Dalton and Alex Merchen; a brother, Leonard Petoske and his wife, Pauline of Las Vegas, Nevada; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Marrington on July 9, 2003; a son Paul Marrington; a granddaughter, Dana Marrington; a great-grandson, Taylon Marrington; two sons-in-law, Vincent Dinsmore and Jim Merchen; her parents, Peter Petoske and Addie (Thomas) Petoske; two sisters, Hazel Melvin and Joyce Jarman; and six brothers, Richard, Stanley, Kenneth (Wayne), Donald and Dale Petoske as children and Clarence Petoske.
Visitation was held 6-7 p.m. Friday, May 27 at St. William Catholic Church in Midland, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at St. William Catholic Church in Midland, with Father Kevin Achbach as celebrant.
Interment was at the Midland Cemetery.
A memorial is established.
