In memory of

Marilyn F. Gillaspie

of Midland, South Dakota, died on Friday, November 9, 2012 at her home in Midland at the age of 68

Marilyn Wiedower was born August 25, 1944 in San Diego, California, the daughter of Joseph and Odelia (Muller) Wiedower. She grew up in San Diego and graduated from the Academy of Our Lady of Peace High School.
After a successful career managing doctor offices, she married Conrad Gillaspie, becoming a Navy wife, moving from Idaho Falls to Northern California as Conrad’s deployments changed. They finally settled in Hot Springs, South Dakota, where she put her organizational skills and creative talents into establishing and running the very successful Rocking G Bed ‘n Breakfast.
In September 1999, Conrad and Marilyn moved to Midland. There she served her church as Eucharist minister and loved nothing more than to quietly work her magic with knitting needles or cross-stitch creating works of art and love.
After Conrad’s death on February 2, 2000, Marilyn continued to make her home in Midland, where she has since resided.
She will be missed by her family which includes four sons Mark Leighton of Rapid City and his son Daniel, Matthew Leighton of Lewistown, Montana and his children Jordan and Miranda, Timothy Gillaspie and his wife Katrina and their sons, Connor and Shane of Santa Rosa, California, and John D. • Marilyn was very close to Jesus. I learned much about faith in God from her. She was looking forward to being with Conrad again and I'm sure she is in the Lord's arms. I am sorry for your loss. ~ Barbara Jones Midland (11/9/2012)
  • Dear Gillaspie Family,
We were so sorry to hear of Marilyn's passing. She was a special person whom we got to know during their B & B career. She had that special gift of always thinking of others, their comfort and welfare. It's no wonder that she always received the top reviews on her B & B. She is healed now and with her Lord. God bless you with His comfort and your treasured memories.
~ Lyndy & Kenny Ireland Philip, SD (11/9/2012)
  • Gillaspie Family,

I have fond memories of Marilyn. She was an inspiration during my time in Midland. Please be assured of my prayers!
~ Fr. Tony Grossenburg Lemmon, SD (11/9/2012)
  • Gillaspie Family,
I am saddened to learn of Marilyn's passing. I enjoyed our Bible Study time together--Thursday mornings. She was a faithful member of St. William Church and a Lay Eucharistic Minister. She was so generous--donated a handmade quilt to the Terra Sancta project of the Rapic City Diocese. Rest in peace, Marilyn.
