of Miles City, Montana, formerly of Wall, South Dakota, died on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at his home near Miles City, Montana surrounded by his friends and family at the age of 62
David A. Hauk was born on June 20, 1951 in Wall, South Dakota to Margaret “Peggy” (Clark) and George Hauk. He attended Lincoln Grade School just north of the farm until starting high school in Philip. Dave graduated from Philip High School in 1969. Dave was the oldest of four boys, who when growing up were some of his best partners in crime. Dave attended college at Black Hills State until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1971. Basic training took him to Ft. Lewis, Washington and later to be stationed in DaNang, Vietnam until being Honorably Discharged on April 2, 1972. Dave was married to Roxanne Berry on December 14, 1974. From this union two children were born, Michael and Lisa. They ranched and worked for Philip Livestock until 1979. At which time they moved to Quinn, South Dakota and started a construction company. Dave and Roxanne continued to ranch and work in the Philip area until Dave moved to Montana in 1998. While in Montana, Dave worked for Big R in Bozeman. He took great pride in his job and a promotion came that brought him to Miles City, Montana in 1999 where he was the manager of Murdoch’s formerly Big R. He also was able to fulfill a
lifelong dream to ranch in Montana with his son Mike. He found great contentment in Eastern Montana, even though home was always Western South Dakota. Dave later worked at Cowtown Ag Supply until he decided to semi retire and be a full time Grandpa.
Dave was competitive at heart whether it be playing a game of pitch or following his Duke Blue Devils in the NCAA. He also enjoyed fishing in Alaska and shooting guns with his grandson Jaxon. Some of Dave’s greatest accomplishments were being the recipient of the Bronze Star, learning how to fly with his first solo flight in 1999 and being a Western South Dakota
Buckaroo since 1980. Some of the favorite loves in Dave’s life were his kids and grandkids, Hereford cows, and horses.
Dave was preceded in death by his father George Hauk.
