In memory of

Janet Craven

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Saturday, July 27, 2002 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 54

Janet Johnson was born March 29, 1948 at Camp Lejeune Marine Base in Jacksonville, North Carolina, the daughter of Virginia (Smith) and M.C. Johnson.

As an infant the family moved to South Dakota. She spent her childhood years in South Dakota, except for one year, at the age of nine, when she lived with her grandparents in North Carolina. Janet received her education in Philip, graduating from Philip High School in 1967.

On December 31, 1967 she married Theodore "Bill" Craven at Philip, South Dakota and to that marriage were born two children, Patrick and Michelle.

In 1977 she attended college at Springfield, South Dakota and received her degree in business management. After receiving her degree, she and the children moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she held many managerial positions.

In 1982, they moved back to Philip where she operated her parents’ farm northeast of Philip.

She and the children moved into Philip after the sale of the farm. Janet and her mom, Virginia, opened V.J.’s Refinishing which she operated off and on until her death.

Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life. She spoke often of happy childhood memories, especially times with her maternal and paternal grandparents, and her love of horses.

Grateful for having shared her life are one son, Patrick Craven of Rapid City; two daughters, Michelle Brenner of Nowlin, and Sheila Kahl and her husband Robert of Peidmont; six grandchildren, Terri Craven, Travis and Tessa Brenner, and Michael, Kathleen, and Kelsie Kahl; her parents Virginia and Arnold Wolden of Philip; her father, M.C.
