In memory of

Shandon Kleinschmit

of Wall, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood at the age of 89

Shandon Louise Wood was born January 29, 1915, at Gayville, South Dakota, the daughter of William and Erma (Conklin)Wood. The family moved to a ranch northeast of Wall, South Dakota in 1925 where she lived until she moved into Wall. She continued to live in the Wall area and was united in marriage to Frank Kleinschmit on March 11, 1935 where they made their home. Shandon assisted her husband in his business, Kleinschmit Construction. She was an active member of the Methodist Church and its Woman’s Auxiliary for many years and worked on many projects for the church including the printing of the cookbooks, helping with the bazaars and serving dinners to families. She was a friend to many. She loved cooking and having friends and family for dinner and for the holidays. As far as she was concerned, the more the merrier. She enjoyed her family, playing games with her grandchildren, and gardening. She liked camping in the Black Hills with Frank where they would take their fifth wheel and enjoy the lakes and fishing.

Grateful for having shared her life include two daughters, Luann Spence of Grove, Oklahoma and Mona Rae Sims of Phoenix, Arizona; one son Douglas Kleinschmit and his wife Lola of Wall; five grandchildren, Lance Spence of Clarksville, Arkansas, Roxann Cool of El Dorado, Kansas, Jimmie Sims of Phoenix, Arizona, Kimberly Spence of Harrisonville, Missouri and Nathan Kleinschmit of Wall; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eunice Lewis of Rapid City, and Doris Clark of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a brother, Lloyd Wood of Hyde Park, Massachusetts; and a sister-in-law, Jewell Wood of Tallahassee, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Kleinschmit on December 12, 1992; her parents William and Erma Wood; a brother Merwyn Wood; a sister Millie Kennedy and a great- grandson, Blake Cool.

Closed casket visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall.

Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, at the United Methodist Church in Wall, with Pastor Jim Cissell officiating.

  • We are sorry to learn of your loss. Please know you will be in our thoughts and prayers. ~ Don & Susie Cuppy Mitchell, SD (2/24/2004)
  • We are sorry to hear of Shandon's passing. She was always so kind and caring. I remember singing My Eye Is On The Sparrow in church and Shandon came up to me and said that is my favorite hymn and that I had done a great job. That meant a lot to me that she would take the time to let me know, but what would we expect from that wonderful lady.
    Our love and prayers,
Tom, Kamie, Abbie and Emily Carmichael
