In memory of

Lois Vogelgesang

of Wanblee, South Dakota, died on Monday, January 28, 2002 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 84

Lois Hazel Williams was born December 5, 1917, on her family’s homestead near Hot Springs, the daughter of JT and Hazel (Chilcote) Williams.

She grew up on the homestead and attended Lithia Rural School and Lennon Rural School in that area.

She was united in marriage to Conrad Vogelgesang on June 8, 1936 in Hot Springs, South Dakota.

They made their home on a farm seven miles west of Wanblee. They continued to operate the farm until Conrad’s death on April 21, 1965.

She and her son, Conrad, Jr. and his family continued to operate the farm until June 1999 when blindness forced her into the Philip Nursing Home.

Lois was the last living charter member of the Wanblee Ladies Birthday Club.

Grateful for having shared her life are one son, Conrad Vogelgesang and his wife Paula of Wanblee; one daughter, Hazel Kay Barrieau and her husband Bernie of Litchfield, New Hampshire; three grandsons, Ryan Barrieau of Litchfield, New Hampshire, and Jay and Michael Vogelgesang of Wanblee; one granddaughter, Jill Wolfe of Shreaveport, Louisiana; one sister, Lorna Gallentine of Rapid City; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband Conrad, Lois was preceded in death by her parents, JT and Hazel (Chilcote) Williams; two brothers, Gilbert "Bud" and Vern Williams; one sister, Lenore Gaebler; an infant granddaughter in 1973; and a grandson, Aaron Barrieau who died in June 1979.

Funeral services for Lois Hazel Vogelgesang, age 84, of Philip, formerly of Wanblee, will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2002 at the Presbyterian Church in Kadoka, with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2002 at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka.

Interment will be in the Kadoka Cemetery, Kadoka, South Dakota.

A memorial is established.
