In memory of

Virgil Horton

of Wall, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, June 13, 2000 at his home in Wall at the age of 84

Virgil M. Horton was born April 16, 1916, on his parents' ranch south of Quinn, South Dakota, the son of Charles R. and Elza (McFarland) Horton.

He grew up on the ranch and attended elementary school in that comminuty prior to attending Quinn High School, then Conata High School, before graduating from Wall High School. As a young man, he ranched with his parents.

Virgil was united in marriage to Lillian E. Bagley on June 6, 1945, at Sioux City, Iowa.  They made their home on the Horton Ranch, which they operated all their married life, and in later years with their son, Richard, and his family.

Virgil was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wall, where he served on the church board.  He was a member of the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association, served on the Flatt Butte Township Board; served several years on the Production Credit Board; and served several years on the Eastern Pennington County Grazing District Board.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Lillian E. Horton of Wall; a son, Richard "Rick" Horton and his wife, Nancy, of Wall; two daughters, Barbara Fuller and her husband, Terry, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Kay Dahlquist and her husband, Terry, of Sioux City, Iowa; nine grandchildren; one sister, Velma Williams and her husband, Jesse, of Philip; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles W. Horton; and one sister, Lona Brown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital Capital Campaign in Philip.
