of Kadoka, South Dakota, died on Monday, December 27, 1999 at the Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron at the age of 90
Myrtle J. Nelson was born April 1, 1909 to Albert and Josephine (Duba) Nelson near Kadoka, South Dakota. She graduated from the eighth grade at South Creek School and attended two years of high school in Kadoka and then two years at Chamberlain. She graduated from Chamberlain High School in 1926.
Myrtle attended Southern Normal College at Springfield, South Dakota, for nine months and later graduated from Northern State Normal College at Aberdeen in 1937.
She taught school for thirteen years at country schools and at Weta and Cottonwood.
Myrtle moved to Los Angeles, California in 1941. She worked at California Suedes Wear, Glacier Knitting Mills and Harbor Furniture Manufacturing. She moved to Paramount, California in 1960 and retired in 1974. In 1983 she moved to Kadoka, South Dakota and moved to Huron in 1991.
She was a member of Rebecca Circle and WELCA in Kadoka and the Tri-County Senior Citizens. In Huron she was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Joy Circle, and the Huron Area Senior Citizens Center. Myrtle was an avid bowler and played cards at any time. She also enjoyed oil painting.
She is survived by two sisters, Ethel A. Woodruff, of Huron, and Alice (John) Regan, of Layton, Utah; a sister-in-law, Mondain Peterson, of Huron; a brother-in-law, Russell Hicks, of Kadoka; two nieces; six nephews; twelve great-nieces and great-nephews; and four great-great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Merlin Nelson, and one sister, Eunice Hicks.
