Albert "Al" Kochersberger

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Monday, November 1, 1999 at the V.A. Medical Center in Ft. Meade at the age of 83

Albert W. Kochersberger, better known as "Al" to his family and friends, was born June 2, 1916 in Jamaica, New York, the son of William and Marie (Cotiaux) Kochersberger.

He grew up and received his education in the Jamaica community.  As a young man he worked on his parents vegetable farm with his brothers and sisters.  Later he worked in a mental hospital in New York.

Al entered the U.S. Army during Work War II serving from July 30, 1941 until his honorable discharge on October 30, 1945.  While stationed in Ft. Lewis, Washington, Al met his future wife, Florence Heidler, whom he married on January 28, 1943 at Aberdeen, Washington.  To this union were born two children, Alene and Larry.  After Al servied 11 months in Germany and Austria, he was honorably discharged on October 3, 1945.

The family made their home in Babylon Long Island, New York.  Al worked in a Ford Dealership for two years.  In 1947, the family moved to Philip, South Dakota where they have since resided.

While in Philip, Al worked as an auto mechanic for Dorothy Brothers Dealership for 31 years before retiring in 1978.

Al was an avid outdoors person, enjoying camping, hunting and fishing.

Grateful for having shared his life are his son, Larry Kochersberger and his wife, Phyllis, and their children, Alan and his wife, Tina Kochersberger of Philip and their daughter, Rachel; and Amy Kittelson and her husband, Scott of Murdo, South Dakota; a son-in-law, Father Donald O. Nesheim of Minneapolis, Minnesota and his children, Robert Nesheim of Denver, Colorado; David Nesheim of Flagstaff, Arizona; Debbi Alexander and her husband, Paul of Tulsa, Oklahoma and their children, Anthony, Jay, and Tiffany; a brother, Edward Kochersberger of Franklin, North Carolina; a sister, Dorothy Freund of Brentwood, New York; the mother of his children, Florence Kochersberger of Philip and host of other relatives and friends.

Albert was preceded in death by his daughter, Alene Nesheim, who died in March of 1999; his parents; one brother, William; and three sisters, Marty, Viola and his twin sister, Ethel.
