Kathleen "Kate" Habinck

of Wall, South Dakota, died on Friday, August 20, 1999 at the Wesleyan Health Care Center in Rapid City at the age of 92

Kathleen L. Manifold, better known as "Kate" to her family and friends, was born February 17, 1907, on a farm near Springview, Nebraska, the daughter of William George and Myrtle Mae (George) Manifold.

She grew up in the Springview area and attended grade school in Ainsworth, Nebraska, and high school in Colome, South Dakota.

As a young lady, she worked as a bookkeeper in the Colome Bank.

Kate was united in marriage to Robert J. "Bob" Habinck on June 30, 1926, at Burke, South Dakota.

They made their home on a farm near Martin, South Dakota, until 1928 when they moved to a farm on Cuny Table south of Scenic, where they leased the Ben Black Elk farm.  In 1933, they moved to the Clark Ranch north of Scenic, where they resided until 1951 when they moved to a ranch seven miles north of Scenic.  After her husband's death on July 23, 1989, she moved into the Prairie Village Apartments in Wall where she lived until moving to Rapid City in May of 1997 to be closer to her family.

Kate was very well known to her family and friends in her community for her homemade bread and her pancakes.

Kate was a member of the United Church of Christ in Scenic; was a charter member of the Crooked Creek Extension Club; and was a 4-H leader in the Scenic community for many years.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son and his wife, John and Margie Habinck of Miles City, Montana; three daughters, Mary Alice Juliussen of Grandview, Washington, Donna Belle and her husband, Dean Talty, of Rapid City, and Mildred Jean and her husabnd, Lawrence Gartrell of Carthage, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Fox of Kilgore, Nebraska; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Robert J. "Bob" Habinck, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, her parents, three brothers, and four sisters.
