In memory of

Aubrey Lester

of Interior, South Dakota, died on Sunday, May 16, 1999 at the Belle Fourche Health Care Center in Belle Fourche at the age of 97

Aubrey C. Lester was born June 6, 1901, near Jewell Junction, Iowa, the son of George and Emma (Putman) Lester.

As a child he moved with his parents to a homestead in Lyman County, near the town of Lyman.  He grew up on the homestead and received his education in the Lyman area.

Aubrey was united in marriage to Tessie Berg on July 23, 1921, at Chamberlain.  They resided on his parents' homestead near Lyman.  In 1923, he became employed by the Chicago-Milwaukee Railroad.  In 1950, the family moved to Interior where he continued with the railroad until reitring as section foreman in 1966.  Aubrey then became employed as a custodian for the Interior School System for several years.

They continued to live in Interior until 1991 when they moved to Whitewood, where they made their home with their daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Ronald Hill.  On August 4, 1997, they moved into the Belle Fourche Health Care Center because of health reasons.

His wife, Tessie, preceded him in death on October 9, 1997.

Aubrey was a member of the Interior Presbyterian Church.  He loved to hunt and also did taxidermy work.  He was an avid baseball fan and played on a city team for many years and managed a team when his sons were growing up.

Grateful for having shared his life are his three sons and their spouses, Clinton J. and Agnes Lester of Glendale, Arizona, Cletus and Joan Lester of Spearfish, South Dakota, and Gary and Rose Lester of Deadwood, South Dakota; two daughters and their spouses, Joyce and Loyd Brandt of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Lana and Ronald Hill of Whitewood, SD; 23 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Lester of Belle Fourche; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife, Tessie, he was preceded in death by one son, Duane Lester; his parents; one grandson, Steven Lester, four brothers and one sister.
