of Kadoka, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, May 11, 1999 at his home in Kadoka at the age of 89
Otto Leffler was born January 30, 1910, at Howells, Nebraska, the son of William and Anna (Brockmann) Leffler. As a child, he moved with his parents to a farm west of Cottonwood. He grew up in the Cottonwood area and graduated from Cottonwood High School.
As a young man, he worked in construction as a bulldoze operator. Otto served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific. After his discharge, he returned to the Cottonwood area, where he worked for the City of Cottonwood in the electrical department and also did construction for Ohmer Cook on his farm/ranch.
He moved to Kadoka in the early 1950s, where he worked as a drayman in the Kadoka community. He was united in marriage to Bessie M. Parke on June 10, 1954, at Kadoka. They made their home in Kadoka all their married life. He was employed by the City of Kadoka for over 30 years before retiring in 1985.
Otto was a lifetime member of the Jackson County American Legion Post #27. He enjoyed playing his harmonica and tap dancing, and he was an avid gardener and frugal collector.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Bessie Leffler of Kadoka; three daughters and their husbands, Pauline and Lavern Lanz of Lakeview, Marlene and Denny Herman of Rapid City, and Gladys Leffler Harstad and her husband, Keith; seven grandchildren, Derek, Darby, Lydia and Caleb Lanz, and Ginny, Joshua and Josiah Herman; five brothers, Al Leffler and Walt Leffler, both of Spokane, Washington, Archie Leffler of Clarkstone, Washington, Clarence Leffler of Medford, Oregon, and Glen Leffler of Phoenix, Arizona; and a host of other relatives and friends.
