Dolph Bailey Dennis was born December 29, 1913, on his parents' ranch in Stonewall County, near Aspermont, Texas, the son of Pete and Martha (Wray) Dennis.
He grew up on the ranch and attended rural school in that area.
Dolph was united in marriage to Edna Brandon on December 29, 1932, in Stonewall County, Texas.
They made their first home on a ranch in Stonewall County before moving to a ranch near Hereford, Texas, where they ranched until moving to a ranch near Texline, Texas.
In 1958, they moved to a ranch near Fort Pierre, South Dakota, for several years before moving to the Faith area, where they ranched for about 10 years before moving back to central South Dakota. In 1981, they moved back to Texas where they resided until moving to the Philip, South Dakota, area in 1993 where they made their home near their son and daughter-in-law, George and Shirley Dennis.
Dolph was a member of the Methodist Church.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Edna, of Philip; a son, George Dennis and his wife, Shirley, of Philip; two daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Jack Law of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and Barbara Gail and Tom Haisten of Hobbs, New Mexico; six grandsons and three granddaughters; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Dolph was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Burris and Bland; and four sisters, Bessie, Winnie, Lila, and Lois.
