In memory of

Herbert DeYoung

of Midland, South Dakota, died on Thursday, July 17, 1997 at the St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre at the age of 88

Herbert DeYoung was born January 13, 1909, at Bemis, South Dakota, the son of Jacob and Edith (Koenders) DeYoung.

He moved with his parents to a homestead in Old Stanley County, 20 miles north of Midland.  In 1918, the family moved to a farm three miles northwest of Midland.  He grew up there and received his education in the Midland area.

As a young man he farmed with his parents.  He also drove truck for several people in the Midland community and helped do dirt work in the Midland area.  He owned and operated a farm north of Midland until retiring in 1982 and moving into Midland.  Becuase of health reasons, he moved into the Kelly's Retirement Home in Pierre on August 10, 1995, where he has since resided.

Herbert enjoyed hunting and was an avid card player.

Grateful for having shared his life are his brother, Richard DeYoung of Philip; two sisters, Rena Nemec of Midland and Margaret Crawford of Pratt, Kansas; seven nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harold DeYoung.

A memorial is established.
