In memory of

Marlyn E. Schuler

of Kadoka, South Dakota, died on Thursday, January 9, 1997 at the North East Medical Center in Humble, Texas at the age of 52

Marlyn Edward Schuler was born March 8, 1944, in Wall, South Dakota, the son of Edward and Viola D. (Pippert) Schuler.

Marlyn was baptized on July 9, 1944, and confirmed on May 5, 1958, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Creighton.

He grew up on a farm-ranch in the Creighton area and received his elementary education in rural schools in the Creighton area before attending Wall High School.  As a young man he worked at the Wall Drug Auto Livery in Wall.

He was united in marriage to Janice Rittel on September 24, 1964, at Belle Fourche, South Dakota.  They made their home in Sturgis where Marlyn worked at the Homestake Gold Mine in Lead.  Later they moved to Lake City and then to Lennox, South Dakota, areas where he was employed in road construction with Gustafson Construction Company. 

In the fall of 1965 they moved to Kadoka where Marlyn worked for Rich Drabek Construction Comapny, the Jackson County Highway Department, and then the South Dakota Department of Highway Maintenance.  In 1974 Marlyn purchased a trucking company, which he owned and operated until 1989.  In 1984 he and Janice purchased the Circle 10 Campground near Cactus Flat, which they have continued to operate until the present time.

Marlyn was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church of Kadoka and a former member of the Kadoka Volunteer Fire Department.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Janice Schuler of Philip; three daughters and their husbands, Ginger and Tim Klima of Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, Rhonda and Jim Davis of New Carney, Texas, and Laura and Gaylord LaPlante of Mission, South Dakota; six grandchildren; four sisters, Sylvia Eisebraun and her husband, Wilhelm, of Bismarck, North Dakota; Marilyn Drewitz of Wall; Gladys Wilburn and her husband, Wes, of Elm Springs; and Jeanette Miller and her husband, Larry, of Kadoka; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, LaVern Schuler.

A memorial has been established.
