In memory of

Genevieve L. Owens

of Midland, South Dakota, died on Saturday, April 27, 1996 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 83

Genevieve L. Owens was born January 6, 1913, at Dell Rapids, South Dakota, to David and Julia (Simington) Owens.

She grew up on a farm-ranch southeast of Midland.  She received her elementary education in rural schools and then attended Murdo High School for two years prior to graduating from Midland High School in 1934.

As a young lady she worked with her parents and her brother on the family farm-ranch.  In 1938 they all moved to a farm-ranch south of Midland where she continued to live until the time of her death.  After her father's death, she farmed and ranched with her brother and also took care of her mother for 15 years because of her mother's Parkinson's Disease.  After her brother's death in 1974, her nephew, Vincent Dinsmore, farmed and ranched with her until his death in August 1995.

Genevieve was a member of the Midland American Legion Auxiliary #143 where she served as secretary for many years.  She was a member of the Midland Senior Citizens and the Birthday Club.

Grateful for having shared her life are her sister, Matilda Dinsmore of Midland; two nieces, Sister Cherylyn Dinsmore of Pierre and Watertown, and Ruby Engelhaupt and her husband, Ted, of St. Paul Minnesota; two great-nieces, Victoria and Dianna Engelhaupt; two great-nephews, Stephen and Dean Engelhaupt; a great-great nephew, Michael Engelhaupt; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edward Owens; two nephews, Blaine and Vincent Dinsmore; and a niece, Mary Dinsmore.

A memorial is established.
