Ada Jane Schwartz was born February 17, 1899 near Silver City, Iowa to Frank and Edna (Dunbar) Schwartz.

She was raised by her grandparents in the Silver City area until graduating from 8th grade elementary school at which time she moved to Philip, in 1914, and made her home with her father and step-mother.  Her father was the drugist in the Philip area for 30 years.  Ada graduated from Philip High School in 1917 and was the oldest living graduate of Philip High School.  Ada taught at the Malone Rural School located northeast of Milesville, South Dakota.

She was unived in marriage to Fred L. Marrington, on June 3, 1918, at Ft. Pierre, South Dakota.  They made their home on the Marrington Ranch, on Plum Creek, north of Philip until 1940 when they moved to Rapid City.  While in Rapid City, Ada worked as a nurse's aide at the hospital.  In 1957 they moved to Philip where they looked after her husband's parnets.

In 1963 they moved to Midland, South Dakota where they both worked as custodians at the Midland High School until retiring in 1965.  They continued to reside in Midland and after her husband's death on August 23, 1977 she continued to reside there.

Ada was a member of the Birthday Club and the Midland Senior Citizens of which she has been honored as the oldest living member.  Ada was the Grand Marshall of the Philip Centennial Parade which was held in 1982.

Grateful for having shared her life are her three sons, Robert Marrington of Midland, South Dakota, Dean Marrington of Gillette, Wyoming, and Glenn Marrington of Pierre, South Dakota; one daughter, Delores "Betty" Rathbun of Des Moines, Washington; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Fred, she was preceded in death by three grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; her parents; a sister in infancy; and a grandson-in-law.
