In memory of

George D. Michael

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Monday, May 15, 1995 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 93

George D. Michael was born November 15, 1902, at Fort Pierre, South Dakota, to Anderson and Emma (Reed) Michael.  As a child he moved with his parents to the Philip area where he grew up and received his education.

George was united in marriage to Emma Peterson in October of 1932 at White River, South Dakota.  They made their home on a ranch on the Bad River east of Philip all their married life.

In conjunction with his ranching operation, George worked as a brand inspector for many years in the Philip area.  In 1953 George Michael and Paul Roseth purchased the Philip Livestock Auction, which they operated until March of 1954.  In 1959 he purchased The Pioneer Review in Philip, which he owned until selling in 1963.

After his wife's death on February 23, 1974, George continued his ranching interest until his later years.

George was baptized in the Catholic church and was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks of Rapid City.

Grateful for having shared his life are his two sons and their wives, Anderson and Janelle Michael of Channing, Texas, and Gene and Sheryl Michael of Philip; three daughters, Delores Ebberts and her husband, Richard, of Lake San Marcos, California, Bea Williams of Missoula, Montana, and Mary Lou Schimke and her husband, Charles, of Grants, New Mexico; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three half-sisters, Virginia Rose of Cucamonga, California, Doris Reedy of Prescott, Arizona, and Marjorie Murphy of Los Angeles, California; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife, Emma Michael, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Anderson "Babe" Michael and Paul Michael, and one half-sister in infancy.

The family request memorials be directed to the Haakon County Prairie Transportation Bus or the Philip Nursing Home Residents' Activities Fund.
