In memory of

Violet "Vi" Fosse

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, January 31, 1995 at the Philip Nursing Home in Philip at the age of 77

Violet N. Pederson, better known as "Vi" to her family and friends, was born May 11, 1917, at Geddes, South Dakota, to John Martin and Helen Marie (Anderson) Pederson.

At the age of six, she moved with her parents to a farm west of Kadoka where she grew up and attended rural schools prior to graduating from Kadoka High School in 1935.  Vi attended Huron College for two years where she obtained her teaching certificate and then taught in Haakon County rural schools.  Later she moved to Rapid City where she was employed as a clerk for Mills Drug Store.

Vi was united in marriage to Theodore "Ted" Fosse on June 28, 1941, at Mitchell, South Dakota.

They made their home in Huron until 1942 when they moved to a farm two and one-half miles northwest of Hilland, which included Ted's father's original homestead.  As years went by, they expanded their farming and cattle operation.  In October of 1973 they purchased a home in Philip.  While in Philip, Vi worked as a clerk at The Fashion Shoppe.

Because of health reasons, she moved into the Philip Nursing Home in February of 1987.

Vi was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the WELCA of the church.  She was a member of the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; the Hilland Extension Club; and was a Haakon County 4-H Leader.

Her husband, Ted, preceded her in death on January 23, 1995.

Vi was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters, Dena Hunt and her husband, Ted, of Spearfish, and Kathy Kampfe and her husband, Garland, of Philip; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Charlotte O'Neal of Irvine, California; one brother, Robert Pederson of Gallup, New Mexico; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Ted, she was preceded in death by her son, Delane Fosse; her parents; four brothers, Perry Pederson, John Pederson, Raymond Pederson as a child, and one brother in infancy; and one sister, Lorraine Pederson.

Family request memorials be directed to the First Lutheran Church or the Philip Nursing Home, both of Philip.
