of Wall, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, September 28, 1994 at the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood at the age of 79
Evelyn Naome was born July 31, 1915, on the Santee Indian Reservation in Santee, Nebraska, to Alexander and Dora Mae (Simpson) MacGregor. Alex was working as Boss Farmers on the reservation. Evelyn, at the age of two, moved with her parnets and older sister, Margaret, to the homestead northwest of Wall, South Dakota, in 1917. Sisters, Iona, Alora, and Dorothy were born at Wall.
Evelyn attended elementary school at Cedar Butte, high school at Wall High School, and received her teaching certificate from Black Hills State Teachers College.
Evelyn married Merritt E. Patterson on October 13, 1934, in Sturgis. They made their first home in New Underwood where Merritt worked on the railroad. They moved back to Wall to work on her father's homestead farm, which they eventually leased and bought. The farm was home until Evelyn moved into the Good Samaritan Center in April of 1994.
Evelyn was a member of the First Methodist Church of Wall, where she served many years as Sunday School teacher and superintendant of the church school. She was a member of Wonderland Chapter #168, Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron several times. Evelyn, with Merritt, was an avid booster for all local sports teams and, fittingly, they were presented the First Annual Booster Award in 1979.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Merritt, of Wall; four sons, all of Wall, and their families, including 11 grandchildren: Gene and his fiancee, Rita Kasuske, his children: Dawn and Matt Nagel of Fairview, South Dakota; Kent and Elizabeth Patterson of Atlanta, Georgia; Mark and Jennifer Patterson of Wall; Dean and Marcine and their children: Scott Patterson of Sioux Falls; Kevin and Diana Patterson of Sioux Falls; Dale and Barb and their children: Justin of Aberdeen, Sean, Ryan, Dain, and Karmin, all of Wall; Gale and Karol and their son, Seth, of Wall; three sisters, Margaret Parkin of Placerville, California; Alora Knight of Gardenerville, Nevada, and Dorothy Smith of Carson City, Nevada; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Iona.
A memorial is established.
