of Philip, South Dakota, died on Monday, December 15, 2014 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 75
Arthur Edwin “Dugan” Stewart was born July 18, 1939, in Beaver, Oklahoma, the son of Ernest and Bessie (Getz) Stewart. In May 1953, Dugan moved to South Dakota. He graduated from Murdo High School in 1957.
Dugan was united in marriage to Charmaine Wheeler on October 11,1958. They made their home at the Rafter Cross Ranch north of Philip for 48 years. They retired in 2009 and moved into Philip, where he has since resided.
Dugan was a member of the Western South Dakota Buckaroos, the South Dakota Limousin Association, and a Golden Eagle member of the NRA. Dugan sponsored a National Limousin Tour of Cattle on his ranch in June 1992, with people from all over the world attending. Dugan was also a breed rep for the Black Hills Stock Show for a number of years.
Dugan enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, whether it was moving cattle or wrestling with them. Dugan raised and sold registered Limousin cattle for many years, and enjoyed going to cattle shows. Fishing and hunting with his good buddies was a highlight in Dugan’s life.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Charmaine Stewart of Philip; three children Richard Stewart and his wife Diana of Philip, Tina Stewart of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Steven Stewart and his wife Beth of Philip; six grandchildren Kellie (Mark) Halvorson, Beau (Jamie) Stewart, Jeb (Cassandra) Stewart, and Kobie, Jason, and TJ Davis; five great-grandchildren; two sisters Patricia Meller of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Dorothy Hunter and her husband Bill of Blackfoot, Idaho; one brother-in-law Justin Wheeler and his wife Joyce of Philip; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Dugan was preceded in death by a son Vincent Stewart; and his parents.
Visitation was held 5-7 p.m. on Friday, December 19, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Saturday.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 20, at the American Legion Hall in Philip, with Pastor Kathy Chesney officiating.
Interment was at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip.
