In memory of

Genevieve Koehler

of Midland, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, January 27, 1993 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 86

Genevieve Ziegenbein was born October 14, 1906, in Royal, Nebraska, to Karl and Nellie (Williams) Ziegenbein.

When she was eight months old, she moved with her parents by covered wagon to the South Creek Community, which is located northeast of Kadoka, South Dakota.  She grew up and received her education in the South Creek area and as a young lady worked for various families.

Genevieve was united in marriage to George Koehler on August 1, 1925, at Pierre, South Dakota.

They made their home in the Powell, South Dakota, area where they ranched until 1941 when they moved to Coquille, Oregon.  While in Oregon, her husband worked in the saw mill.  In the fall of 1945, they returned to South Dakota and settled on a ranch in the Nowlin area west of Midland, South Dakota, where they ranched until the present time.

After her husband, George's, death on September 17, 1979, she had continued to reside on the ranch until her death.

Genevieve was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was confirmed in 1945.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Theron Koehler, and his wife, Elaine, of Midland; her daughter, Celia (Mrs. Richard) Doud of Midland; 5 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Loleta (Mrs. Stanley) Jacobsen of Pierre, South Dakota, and Alice (Mrs. Duane) Wheeler of Eugene, Oregon; a sister-in-law, Selma Ziegenbein of Sturgis, South Dakota; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, George, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Connie Doud; her parents; two brothers, Theron Ziegenbein and William Ziegenbein, as a child; and two sisters, Minnie Dalrymple and Martha Vander Wegen.
