In memory of

Harold P. Odom

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Saturday, December 5, 1992 at his home in Philip at the age of 74

Harold Price Odom was born November 27, 1918, in Calahan County near Baird, Texas, to Price and Bertha (Long) Odom.

He grew up in that area and attended various rural schools prior to attending Cross Cut High School in Cross Cut, Texas.  As a young man he worked for various ranchers in that area.

Harold was united in marriage to Verda Gaines on January 6, 1940, at Coleman, Texas.  He continued to work on ranches in Texas until serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.

After his discharge, they operated a ranch near Cross Plains, Texas, until 1949 when they purchased a ranch-farm near Cottonwood, South Dakota, which they operated.  After retiring in 1984 they continued to live on the farm-ranch until moving into Philip in May of 1989.

Harold was a member of the Church of Christ in Rapid City.  He was a member of the Wheeler-Brooks American Legion Post #173 of Philip; the South Dakota Stockgrowers Assocation; and served as a director of the Farmers Coop Elevator Association, as well as past president of the Philip Sale Barn Association.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Verda Odom of Philip; a daughter, Sandra (Mrs. Bill) O'Connor of Philip; four grandchildren: Mitzi (Mrs. Bruce) Boyd of Philip, Marty Burns of Philip, Sheri O'Connor and Sharlene O'Connor, both of Philip; two great-grandchildren, Melanie and Alysia Boyd, both of Philip; one brother, Morris Odom of Cross Plains, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Odom; a grandson, Michael O'Connor; his parents; and a sister, Dorthea Mae Odom, as a child.
