In memory of

Anna I. Hanson

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Sunday, August 30, 1992 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 80

Anna I. (Benson) Hanson was born December 9, 1911, in northwest Haakon County near Ash Creek, north of Philip, South Dakota, to Henry A. and Susan (Baker) Benson.

She grew up there and attended the first grade near her home and started second grade in Cottonwood, where her mother taught school.  She finished her schooling and graduated from Philip High School in 1929.  Anna then attended Spearfish Normal where she obtained her teaching certificate.

Anna was united in marriage to Harry Hanson on November 10, 1932, at Philip, South Dakota.

They made their home on Harry's home place, a ranch in northwest Haakon Coutny, where they resided all their married life, except in 1934 and 1935 when they lived near Kyle, South Dakota, and from 1936 until the spring of 1937 when they lived at Wood, South Dakota.  After returning to the ranch they continued to live there until moving into Philip in April of 1992.

Anna was a member of the Dowling Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years.  After Dowling closed she attended Hardingrove Evangelical Free Church in Milesville, South Dakota.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Harry Hanson, of Philip; one son, Arthur and his wife, Judy Hanson, of Philip; one daughter, Bonnie and her husband, Ed Morgan, of Philip; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Chord of White Owl, South Dakota, and Martha Kephart of Farmington, New Mexico; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and three sisters.
