Edward Schuler, better known as "Ed" to his family and friends, was born December 1, 1901, in a rock house north of Quinn, South Dakota, to George and Katherina (Bauerle) Schuler.
As a small boy he moved with his parents to a farm in the Creighton area where he grew up and received his education in a country school.
As a young man he worked for various farmers and ranchers in that area when he wasn't needed at home.
He was united in marriage to Viola Dorothea Pippert on April 2, 1932, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church north of Quinn, South Dakota.
They farmed and ranched in the Creighton area until retiring and moving into Wall in June 1974.
His wife, Viola, preceded him in death on March 18, 1978.
He continued to make his home in Wall until health reasons forced him into the Rapid City Care Center on February 15, 1991.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Wall and a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church north of Quinn, where he was baptized and confirmed as a child. He was a former member of the Emanual Lutheran Church of Creighton where he held various offices.
Ed was a member of the Wall Lions Club and Senior Citizens Friendship Club. He served on the Pleasant Ridge School Board for 30 years and was the supervisor for 20 years for Township #53. He worked for the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service (ASCS) for 26 years and had received a certificate after 25 years for measuring wheat bins and wheat fields for the farm program.
He enjoyed traveling and has been in every state in the Union. Among other hobbies were playing cards, reading books, gardening, and canning his own fruits and vegetables.
Grateful for having shared his life are his son, Marlyn and his wife, Janice, Schuler of Kadoka, South Dakota; four daughters, Sylvia (Mrs. Wilhelm) Eisenbraun of Bismarck, North Dakota, Marilyn Drewitz of Wall, South Dakota, Gladys (Mrs. Wes) Wilburn of Elm Springs, South Dakota, and Jeanette (Mrs. Larry) Miller of Kadoka; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Schuler of Denver, Colorado, and Robert Schuler of Limon, Colorado; four sisters, Ida Huether of Rapid City, South Dakota, Katherina (Mrs. Wilbur) Grob of Columbia, Illinois, Emma (Mrs. Gotthold) Eisenbraun of Wall, South Dakota, and Adella Stern of Freeman, South Dakota; and a host of other relatives and friends.
