In memory of

Thomas E. Moriarty

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, February 6, 1991 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City at the age of 48

Thomas E. Moriarty, better known as "Tom" to his family and friends, was born December 31, 1942, at Eugene and Elizabeth (Reimers) Moriarty at Philip, South Dakota.

He grew up on his parents' ranch 15 miles northwest of Philip, which was homesteaded by his great uncle.

Tom received his first seven years of education at the Enterprise Rural School in that area prior to graduating from Philip High School in 1961.  Tom attended Springfield Normal College at Springfield, South Dakota.

In 1962 Tom was employed with the construction at the Minuteman Missile Sites in western South Dakota.

He was united in marriage to Marianne Fitch on December 20, 1974, at Philip, South Dakota.  They have continued to own and operate a ranch-farm northwest of Philip all their married life.

On October 14, 1984, Tom became employed as a field reporter for the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Services in Philip, a position he held until moving to Faith, South Dakota, in the fall of 1986.  In July of 1987 they returned to Philip where he resumed his field reporter position and on July 30, 1989, he became a Compliance Program Assistant for the ASCS Office.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and served as a P.A.C. member.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2679 of Philip, and was past president of the 11 Mile Corner Roping Club.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marianne Moriarty of Philip; four sons, Tadd Moriarty, Vance Moriarty, Patrick Moriarty, and Ian Moriarty, all of Philip; one daughter, Mikal Moriarty of Philip; his brother, James Moriarty of Philip; his father-in-law, Lewis E. "Bud" Fitch of Philip; several aunts and uncles; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
