In memory of

Doris E. Williams

of Wall, South Dakota, died on Thursday, August 30, 1990 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 91

Doris E. Putnam was born July 5, 1899, in Akron, Iowa, to George and Julia (King) Putnam. 

In 1908 she moved with her family to a homested south of Quinn, South Dakota, in Pennington County.  She grew up there and attended the Pleasant Valley School.

She married Lee Edward Williams on June 5, 1915, at her parents' home near Quinn.  They owned and operated a farm and ranch south of Quinn until 1960 when they retired and moved to Wall.  They accommodated tourists in their home in the summer and traveled to Arizona and California in the winter.

Her husband died on September 19, 1979.  She remained at home until the mid-1980s when she moved to Prairie Village Apartments in Wall.  In March 1990 she moved to the Philip Nursing Home.

Survivors include four sons, Gene Williams of Philip, Verl Williams of Denver, Lyle Williams of Box Elder, and Leslie Williams of Wall; 19 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Forrest Williams; three brothers, Elmer Putnam, King Putnam, and Ralph Putnam; four sisters, Avis Rowley, Mayron Grant, Madaeleine Rush Steen, and Elmo Clingar; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
