of Long Valley, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, September 26, 1989 at the Bennett County Hospital in Martin at the age of 77
Orval Pete Allen was born September 16, 1912, at Ansley, Nebraska, to Peter and Agnes (Duncanson) Allen.
He grew up and received his education in rural schools prior to attending school in Burwell, Nebraska. They family lived in various towns in central Nebraska before moving to a farm near what is now known as Longvalley, South Dakota, in 1926.
He was united in marriage to Margaret K. Dithmer on November 28, 1933, at Kadoka, South Dakota. They farmed and ranched all their married life north and east of Longvalley.
His wife preceded him in death on March 27, 1985. He continued to remain active in the farming and ranching until his death.
Orval attended Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Longvalley; was a member of the Longvalley Community Hall; was a member of the Longvalley Gun Club; served as committeeman for the ASCA for Washabugh County; and managed the Longvalley Jr. Baseball Team for several years.
Survivors include his son, Richard Allen of Kadoka; his daughter and son-in-law, Betty Lou and Joe Stratton of Kadoka; three grandchildren, Cynde Lou (Mrs. Dennis) Stoakes of Sioux Falls, Dick Stratton of Sioux Falls, and Rose Ann Stratton of Pierre; two great-grandchildren, Anna and P.J. Stoakes of Sioux Falls; one brother, Beryl "Bud" Allen of Kadoka; one sister, Ruth Schreiner of Vona, Colorado; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, Margaret, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wayne C. Allen; and one sister, Lulu Hyatt.
A memorial has been established.
