Albert Jerome Gebes, better known as "Jerry" to his family and friends, was born February 2, 1913, on his parents' homestead located two miles west and three-fourths mile south of Billsburg, South Dakota, to Frank and Bertha (Dirndorfer) Gebes.  He grew up there and received his education at the Hart Rural School.

As a young man he farmed and ranched with his parents and later purchased the homestead from them.

He was united in marriage to Celestine "Sally" Brech on May 26, 1955, at Philip, South Dakota.  They continued to operate the farm-ranch until they retired in 1979 and moved into Philip.  Jerry continued to be active in the farming and ranching operation until 1983.

Jerry was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a 59-year-member of the Philip Knights of Columbus Council #2679.

Survivors include his wife, Sally, of Philip; one son, Michael L. Gebes of Milesville, South Dakota; one daughter, Janice (Mrs. Tom) Konst of Philip, South Dakota; nine grandchildren; one brother, George Gebes of Batavia, Illinois; five sisters, Mary Schaefers of Polo, South Dakota, Catherine "Kate" Stephenson of Philip, Esther Simmons and Anna (Mrs. George) Huth, both of Aurora, Illinois, and Agnes (Pat) Baker of Denver, Colorado; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Joe and Henry Gebes and one brother in infancy.
