In memory of

G.H. "Shorty" Clark

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Saturday, July 16, 1988 at the Gordon Memorial Hospital in Gordon, Nebraska at the age of 84

George Harold Clark, better known as "Shorty" to his family and friends, was born November 17, 1903, on a farm near Alliance, Nebraska, to George G. and Minnie Jane (Hawkins) Clark.

He grew up there and graduated from Alliance High School in 1922.  He then attended Lincoln Agriculture College in Lincoln, Nebraska.

He farmed with his family near Alliance.

Shorty was united in marirage to Edith Blanche Soth on November 2, 1930, at Alliance, Nebraska.

They farmed north of Alliance for eight years prior to moving to a ranch near Potato Creek, South Dakota.  In 1942 they moved to Philip, South Dakota where they operated the Pioneer Dairy for three years.  In 1945 they moved to a farm-ranch northwest of Philip, which they opearted until 1955 when they moved into Philip.

Shorty worked for Baye and Parsons John Deere Implement as parts manager for seven years and then as produce manager for Hanson's Super Valu for four years prior to retiring in 1964.

They have continued to make their home in Philip.

Shorty was a charter member of the Community Evangelical Free Church and held many offices in the church.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Edith Clark of Philip; one son, Ray Deane Clark of North Canton, Connecticut; two daughters, Lorraine (Mrs. Al) Morgan of Billings, Montana, and Charlotte Ann (Mrs. Marvin) Cronk of Denver, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Debbie, Doug and Paul Clark; Lynn and Joni Morgan; and John and David Cronk; four great-grandsons, Michael Jon and Joshua David Cronk, and Joseph Deane and Matthew Albert Clark; one brother, Dwight Clark of Renton, Washington; four sisters, Stella (Mrs. Edward) Wait, Esther (Mrs. Vernon) Rubottom, and Gladys Fowler, all of Alliance, Nebraska, and Laura (Mrs. Art) Fenner of Lebanon, Oregon; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Howard Clark and Harry Clark, in infancy; and one sister, Gracie Clark, as a child.
