of Midland, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, January 6, 1988 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 94
Nestor N. Nelson was born April 23, 1893, to James and Mari (Grenson) Nelson on Brave Bull Creek near Midland, South Dakota.
He grew up in that area and received part of his education there before graduating from eighth grade in Pierre. He also attended a six month business course in Pierre.
Nestor ranched with his uncle, Olav "Ole" Hauge, int he Midland and Philip area.
He was united in marriage to Anna M. Hovland on July 3, 1922, at Reverend O.H. Olson's parsonage located 10 miles south of Powell, South Dakota. They continued to ranch with Ole until Ole's death in 1943.
Nestor ranched with his wife, two sons and daughter in the Midland and Philip area until his death.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Midland. He was very active in and supportive of many community activities in the Midland and Philip area. He served on the board of directors for the Community Hospital of Philip and the Midland Pioneer Museum Association.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 65 years, Anna, of Philip; two sons, James Nelson and Martin Nelson, both of Philip; one daughter, Norma Nelson of Philip; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Ingwal Nelson of Midland; one sister, Anna Happe of Fargo, North Dakota; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Nestor was preceded in death by two children in infancy; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren in infancy; one brother, Oliver; and one sister, Rachel.
