In memory of

Irwin W. "Cap" Ferguson

of Kadoka, South Dakota, died on Monday, May 25, 1987 at the Kadoka Care Center in Kadoka at the age of 81

Irwin W. Ferguson, better known as "Cap" to his family and friends, was born August 2, 1905, at Ibapah, Utah, to George and Mary (Kelly) Ferguson.

At the age of fourteen, Cap and his parents and five brothers left Utah by team and wagon for Interior, South Dakota.  Cap and his older brother, Ed, worked for the Matador Cattle Company in the early 1920's and for other ranches in the area until 1935.

Cap worked for the Claude Berry Ranch for 13 years from 1935 until 1948.

He was united in marriage to Alice Drury on March 4, 1944, at Kadoka, South Dakota.  They ranched southeast of Weta from 1948 until illness forced his retirement in January of 1983 when he moved into the Kadoka Care Center.

His wife preceded him in death on November 27, 1975.

Cap was a member of the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association for many years.

Grateful for having shared his life are his six children, Charles "Chuck" of Carbondale, Colorado, Irwin of Kadoka, South Dakota, Chloe of Odessa, Texas, Owen of Longvalley, South Dakota, Clathy of Odessa, Texas, and Ed of Norris, South Dakota; 18 grandchildren; one brother, Jim, of New Underwood, South Dakota; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife, Alice, he was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, Mark, Orville, Ed, and Owen.

A memorial has been established.
