In memory of

Jerome G. Sether

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Monday, February 16, 1987 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 55

Jerome G. Sether was born June 27, 1931, at Cottonwood, South Dakota, to Gilbert "Gib" and Juanita (Hoefs) Sether.  He grew up on a ranch northwest of Philip and received his education in that area.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and after his discharge he returned to the Philip area.  He worked on the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad for two years.

Jerome was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Johnson on September 6, 1955, at Rapid City, South Dakota.  They made their home in Lead, South Dakota, where Jerome was employed by the Homestake Gold Mine for a year before working road construction in South Dakota.

They retured to Philip in 1969.  Jerome was employed at Baye and Sons John Deere Implement as a shop foreman for 15 years before his death.

Jerome was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the 11-Mile Roping Club, both of Philip.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Shirley A. Sether of Philip; one son, Bret, and his wife, Paula Sether of Kadoka, South Dakota; one daughter, Karen, and her husband, Dean Nelson of Philip; three grandchildren, Brendan and Brittany Nelson and Lane Sether; one brother, Kent Sether of New Underwood, South Dakota; one sister, Mrs. Don (Sandra) Merchen of Rapid City, South Dakota; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
