In memory of

Wilma Saucerman

of Midland, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 81

Wilma Jean Saucerman was born June 12, 1934, at the Midland Hospital, the daughter of Alfred and Anna (Larsen) Schofield. She grew up on the ranch five miles west of Midland. She enjoyed spending many younger days with her Larsen grandparents. Wilma attended all 12 years of school in Midland, staying with her Uncle Claude and Aunt Hilda Crawford during the week, and returning home on weekends to help with household and farm chores. After graduation in 1952, she moved to Minneapolis to attend Lab Tech School for a semester but returned home to help her Dad and be with Carol and Terry after her Mom’s death.

In 1953, Wilma was united in marriage to Gaylord Ford Saucerman, and made their home on his parents ranch in Stanley County until 1966, when they moved back to the ranch Wilma grew up on. To this union were born a son Clint, and a daughter Sheri. One son died in infancy.

Wilma’s joy in life was watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow. She took great pride in her hand quilted quilts, baking, and blue glass collection. She was a former member of the Nowlin Lutheran Church and the Midland Piecemakers Quilting Club. Wilma was a current member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Nowlin Circle, Bad River Club, and Birthday Club, all of Midland.

Survivors include one son Clint and his wife Prerry of Midland; one daughter Sheri Wiechmann of Rapid City; three grandsons Tel Saucerman of Rapid City, Ty and Talon Saucerman of Aurora, Colorado; three granddaughters Noel Vohlken and Cori Carroll of Rapid City, and Raquel Croell of Sundance, Wyoming; 10 much loved great-grandchildren; her sister Carol Hunt and her husband Roy of Midland; her brother Terry Schofield and his wife Linda of Midland; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Wilma was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Gaylord, on March 26, 2015; her parents; and one son in infancy.

Visitation was held 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 31, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and one hour preceding the services on Saturday.

Funeral services were held 9:00 a.m. Saturday, August 1, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland, with Pastor Tel Saucerman officiating.

Interment was at the Nowlin Cemetery.
