Paul Urban was born November 11, 1913, in Broadland, South Dakota, to George and Mary (Remaly) Urban. He grew up on the family farm and received his education in a rural school in the Broadland area. As a young man he farmed with his brother, and later moved to the Philip area where he worked for his Uncle John Urban.

Paul was united in marriage to Helen E. Peterson on April 27, 1940, in Rapid City. They made their home in Philip.

During World War II, Paul worked in the ship yard in California. After returning to Philip in 1942, Paul worked for his cousin Glen Urban on a farm. He worked for Dorothy Brothers Garage for twelve years, and later as custodian at the Haakon County Courthouse. Later he worked as a custodian at the First National Bank for four years. After retiring they continued to make their home in Philip.

Paul was a member of the Bad River Senior Citizens, and a former member of the Philip Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Urban, of Philip; one son, Bruce Paul "Tiny" (Marlene) Urban, of Modesto, California; one daughter, Susan "Tweetum" (Dennis) Magnuson, of Casper, Wyoming; four grandchildren; two sisters, his twin sister, Pauline Poulisse, of Sioux City, Iowa, and Opal Beesler of Modesto, California; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Roy, George, Arthur, and Harvey; and two sisters, Leta and Laura.
