In memory of

Blanche Curtis

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Sunday, September 30, 1990 at the Nursing Home in Philip at the age of 93

Blanche Waldron was born June 29, 1897, in Janesville, Wisconsin, to Alexander and Ida (Edwards) Waldron. At the age of five she moved with her family to Huron, South Dakota. She grew up and received her education in the Huron area. As a young lady she did domestic work for various people around Huron.

Blanche was united in marriage to Edgar T. Curtis on February 15, 1918, in Forestburg, South Dakota. They owned and operated a farm in the Iroquois, South Dakota, area until moving to Canning, South Dakota, in 1922. They moved to the Milesville area in 1923 where they owned and operated a farm-ranch. In 1947 they moved into Philip and continued to own the farm-ranch operation.

While in Philip, Blanche worked at the B & M Café and the Hi-Way Café for several years. Blanche later worked as a head cook for the Philip Grade School and High School lunch program until leaving that job and working for the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in the laundry department. After their retirement, they continued to make their home in Philip

Her husband, Edgar, preceded her in death on October 2, 1987. She continued to make her home in Philip. Because of health reasons, Blanche moved into the Philip Nursing Home on July 4, 1989.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth Curtis, of Milesville; two daughters, Charlotte Votroubek, of Philip, and Dorothy (Art) Thompson, of Rapid City; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Elmer Waldron, of Huron; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Blanche was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar; three sons, Melvin, Harold, and Melford Curtis; one daughter, Elaine Curtis; her parents; two brothers, Jim and Bill Waldron; five sisters, Faye Waldron, Weltha McCoy, and three sisters in infancy, Bessie, Tessie, and Hallie.
