of Carson, North Dakota, formerly of Longvalley, South Dakota, died on Friday, July 8, 2016 in Hettinger, North Dakota at the age of 68
David Frank Bauman was born January 14, 1948, in Kadoka, South Dakota, the 2nd of eight children born to Frank and Myrth Adair (Humphrey) Bauman. He grew up on the family ranch northeast of Long Valley, and attended elementary school at the Plainview Rural School in that area. He began high school at Kadoka his freshman year, before attending Sunshine Bible Academy for his sophomore and junior years. It was here that he met his lifelong friend Tim Schmidt. Dave’s senior years were spent at Kadoka. Due to a broken leg as a result of a rodeo accident, he had to take a semester off his senior year and return the following year, graduating from Kadoka High School in 1967.
Dave was united in marriage to Sandra Joyce Stout on December 8, 1968, in Kadoka. They made their home on the ranch northeast of Long Valley. They later moved off the ranch and resided in various places throughout the years, where Dave sold cars for nearly 20 years. When he retired, they moved to Carson, North Dakota, to be closer to their children.
As his father and grandfather did before him, Dave taught all of his children the value of hard work and doing a job well. He also valued playing hard, telling a good story or playing a practical joke – such as serving dog biscuits and chip dip to guests.
Dave’s life was an example of “the best sermons are lived not preached.” He loved his Savior & his family, and together he and Sandi touched many lives through their 40 years as foster parents. He enjoyed leather work and made many beautiful gifts for family and friends. Dave was an excellent, light-handed horseman from the start of his life to the finish.
Survivors include his wife Sandi Bauman of Carson; seven children Jenni (Todd) Stewart of Vermillion, Troy (Denise) Bauman of McLaughlin, Tresa (Daniel) Paul of Carson, Jerri Lyn “Ralph” (James) Yates of Cheyenne, WY, Kenny Kortuem of Mitchell, Devon Bauman of Carson, and Jennifer Bennett of Rapid City; 15 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his father Frank Bauman of Kadoka; seven siblings Jo (Gene) Christensen of Kadoka, Carl (Suzie) Bauman of Kadoka, Vicki (John) Healy of Mitchell, Susan (Dean) Smith of Hampton, Iowa, Larry Bauman of Conway, Missouri, John (Judy) Bauman of Long Valley, and Scott (Marty) Bauman of Long Valley; his father-in-law Pat (Carol) Stout of Sioux Falls; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Dave was preceded in death by his mother Myrth Bauman on May 26, 2015; one son “Jake”; and his mother-in-law Liz Stout.
Visitation will be held one hour preceding the services at the church.
