Richard Kury was born February 7, 1907, on the family homestead northwest of Cottonwood, South Dakota, to Anton and Antonia (Kuss) Kury. He grew up and received his education in the Cottonwood area. Richard never married and spent his entire life farming and ranching on his parent's homestead.

Survivors include one brother, Fred Kury, of Custer; three sisters, Christina Wipf, of Onida, Salome Marta, of Hotchkiss, Colorado, and Antonella Steele, of Yakima, Washington; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Antone Jr. and Mathias; and one sister, Jennie Husted.
