Doug Hovland

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at the Philip Nursing Home at the age of 69

Douglas Anton Hovland was born October 16, 1951 in Philip, South Dakota to Anton and Mary Jane (Fitch) Hovland. He grew up in the Milesville area and attended rural school there before moving to Rapid City where he graduated high school.

After graduation he joined the South Dakota Army National Guard and moved to Sioux Falls. He was united in marriage to Nancy Pekron, and to this union was born a son, Ryan. Doug continued to truck in Sioux Falls before moving to Madison, Wisconsin to continue his trucking profession. He later moved back to Philip and purchased some land in Cottonwood, where he was a handyman and enjoyed working on cars.

Due to health reasons, Doug moved into the Philip Nursing Home where he has since resided.

Survivors include his son Ryan Hovland of Sioux Falls; his sister Sadie Rae Singleton of Philip; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Gary Hovland.
