In memory of

Mary Ellen Hansen

of Wall, South Dakota, died on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Sioux Falls at the age of 83

Mary Ellen O'Dea was born March 22, 1932, in Philip, South Dakota, the daughter of Austin and Anna (Theel) O'Dea. She grew up at Cottonwood, South Dakota and graduated from Quinn High School in 1950. She taught school for four years.

Mary was united in marriage to Kenneth Hansen on August 17th, 1955, and during their marriage was blessed with three sons: Keith, Gary and Eric.
They lived in Philip until they moved to Wall in 1969. She helped her husband with their business. After they retired she worked at the Wall Library a few days a week for a few years.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth; three sons Keith (Meg) Hansen of Sioux Falls, Gary (Shar) Hansen of Chaska, Minnesota, and Eric (Natalie) Hansen of Wall; six grandchildren Megan, Jamie, Alex, Alyssa, Reid, and step-grandson Tyler Peterson; one brother Francis “Bud” O'Dea of Pahrump, Nevada; three sisters Eva Trimble of Fruita, Colorado, Rosemarie “Rosie” (Wesley) Richmond of Rapid City, and Shirley (Bob) Baye of Box Elder.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers Vincent, Lawrence, Thomas “Tom”, Melvin and Raymond O’Dea; and one sister Dolores Hercher.

Visitation will be held 5-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wall, with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wall, with Father Tim Hoag as celebrant.

Graveside services will take place at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip.

Memorials are preferred to the Wall Public Library.

When Brandi & Keri were little I remember Mary , Megan & Jamie would come and get the girls and take them through the badlands so they could spend time getting to know each other. It was a fun time for the girls. She was an awesome grandmother. I'm sure there are lots of wonderful memories that your family will always treasure.
