Martha Mercy Shot was born on December 23, 1923 in Rosebud, South Dakota to Charles Bear Heels and Jennie Runs Close to Village. She graduated from Mission Boarding School and married Norman Shot, Sr. To this union were born four sons.

Martha received LVN training in Oakland, California and worked for Andover Hospitals as a nurse for 20 years.

Martha returned to Belvidere in 2004 to stay with her niece, Charlene. She moved into the White River Health Care Center in 2012 and remained there until her death.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law Dorothy Shot of California; grandchildren, Don Shot, Jr. and Jennifer Shot of California, Rodney Shot, Jr. of New Mexico, Shane Ghost of California and Jody Ghost of Oregon; four great-grandchildren, Damian Shot of New Mexico, Bray and Rue Shot of California and Charlene Romero of Belvidere; a niece Charlene Ceniceros of Belvidere; nephews Stan Estes, Jr. of Oregon and Todd Estes of White River; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband Norman Shot, Sr.; four sons Rodney Shot, Sr., Norman Shot, Jr., Landis Shot, Sr., and Don Shot, Sr.; a grandson Landis Shot, Jr., her parents; three sisters, Ida Estes, Bertha Bear Heels and Esther Bordeaux; and three brothers, Stacey Bear Heels, Chris Bear Heels and Stanley Bear Heels.
Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. on Friday, November 9, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. (MST) on Saturday, November 10, at St. Thomas Cemetery in Corn Creek, South Dakota, with Rev. Dr. Lauren R. Stanley officiating.
