In memory of

Harland Schwalm

of Spearfish, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Spearfish Canyon Healthcare Center at the age of 73

Harland Neal Schwalm was born December 9, 1950 in Sturgis, South Dakota to Ben and Ardath Schwalm. He was the 7th of 8 children. Harland lived in Midland, South Dakota and attended Midland School during his lower grades. The family moved to California where he graduated from Oxnard High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Robin Pierce and they had three children: Heidi, Hillary, and Warren. The family lived in Kelso, Washington where Harland was a welder by profession before moving back to Pierre, South Dakota then on to Spearfish.

Harland was a gentle man with a giving heart who loved to do for others. He had a big smile and loved to joke and tease. He made friends easily wherever he went.

Harland was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother Roger Schwalm, four brothers-in-law Ron Rowland, Sam Hogan, Ron Leonard, and Larry Fairbairn.

He is survived by his brothers Ivan Schwalm and wife Laura of Temecula, CA; Wylie Schwalm and wife Jane of Spearfish, SD; and sisters Lorraine Rowland of Atascadero, CA; Janice Hogan of Paris Crossing, IN; Lea Ann Leonard of Memphis, IN; and Helen Fairbairn of McKenzie Bridge, OR.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at the Midland Cemetery.
