Darlene Hatheway

of Murdo, South Dakota, died on Saturday, April 30, 2011
at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City at the age of 79

Darlene R. Woodcock was born February 7, 1932, in Murdo, South Dakota, the daughter of Clarence and Alma (Dobin, Davis) Woodcock. She grew up and received her education in the Okaton area.

She married Harlen Ned Hatheway in 1949 and to this union five children were born. She and Ned lived in the Okaton-Murdo area all of their lives. They both enjoyed and worked in farming and trucking business. After Ned’s death, she continued to farm and was very successful at doing so for 20 plus years. Darlene was a hard working woman and loved her family. The family gatherings blessed her and gave her great joy.

She was active in many groups in her church and community. The American Legion Auxiliary was one she enjoyed. She remained in her home until her illness took her to the hospital where she went home to be with her Lord. 

Darlene is survived by her children Janyce (Terry) Hockenbary of Rapid City, Joe (Marsha) Hatheway of Black Hawk, Linda (Alen) Styger of Hot Springs, Jerry (Teresa) Hatheway of Murdo, and Lisa Randall of Rapid City; fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; a sister Boots Farris of Pierre; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband Ned Hatheway in 1976, her parents; and one brother Clarence "Junior" Woodcock. 

Visitation was held 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at the United Methodist Church in Murdo, with a time of sharing at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. CDT, Wednesday, May 4th at the United Methodist Church in Murdo, with Pastor Kathy Chesney and Pastor Gordon Higgins officiating.

Interment was held at the Murdo Cemetery. 

A memorial is being established.

Interment: Murdo Cemetery.

I was in Murdo tonight, stopped at the cemetery looked for the fresh flowers,and found your Mom's grave, stood there for awhile and prayed for all of you, may the Lord be your help and comfort at this time.
