Cly Dell Knappof Wall, South Dakota, died on Saturday, April 7, 2012
|
Cly Dell Parkin was born August 4, 1917, north of Wall, South Dakota, the daughter of Thomas and Bertha (Downing) Parkin. She attended country school and later Wall High School.
Cly was united in marriage to George Elsworth Knapp on February 5, 1937, in Rapid City, and to this union were born three children: Darvin (Glenda) Knapp, Della (Robert) Hays, and Neva (William) Hamann.
George and Cly made their first home in a tar-paper shack five miles southwest of Wall on what was known as the Chris Jacobsen place. Then in 1941, they purchased the Bergeson place which is known as H&K Ranch from George’s parents. They resided there until George’s death on April 4, 1974. Cly remained there until moving into the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood in March 2008, where she has since resided.
Cly enjoyed playing cards, gardening, square dancing, and spending time with the grandchildren playing games. She spent much time making quilts from family member’s favorite clothes and embroidered dish towels and pillow cases. She was known for the chicken noodle soup she made for brandings, and the cookies the granddaughters can’t figure out how to make.
While at the Good Samaritan Center she still enjoyed playing cards and bingo, and was always game to catch a ride with any family member going by.
Survivors include two daughters Della Hays and her husband Robert of Wall, and Neva Hamann and her husband William of Wall; a daughter-in-law Glenda Knapp of Wall; eight grandchildren Vicky (Doug) Dahl of Wall, Boe (Nancy) Knapp of Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska, Coleen (Paul) Keffeler of Sturgis, Jimmy (Amy) Hays of North Richland Hills, Texas, Lori (Steve) Peterson of Holabird, Jerry (Misty) Hays of Douglas, Wyoming, Ronda Hamann of Wall, and Ronald (Carol) Hamann of Hermosa; 20 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; the family of Scott and Susie Kroells; and a host of other relatives and friends.
