Marvin McDaniel

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Saturday, January 19, 2013
at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming at the age of 54

Marvin Fred McDaniel was born August 2, 1958, in Philip, South Dakota, the son of Fred Q. and Beverly I. (McClure) McDaniel. He grew up in Philip, graduating from Philip High School in 1976. While in high school, Marvin worked for Jack Hansen at his fur plant. After graduation, Marvin worked for Dorothy Brothers, where he worked on vehicles. Marvin then worked for Wendall Siefert's Electric before he attended Mitchell Vo-Tech, where he earned his electricians license. Marv first worked in Gillette, WY as a residential electrician, and in the late 80s started doing more commercial electrical wiring. He went to work for TIC, and moved to Casper, Wyoming in 1993. He became TIC's master electrician for the western division, and travelled extensively with his girlfriend, Laura Moore, who also worked for TIC. Later Marv went to work for P & H Mine Pro, where he did similar work but travelled to eastern states like Missouri, Illinois, and Minnesota. Another employee, Virgil Tatman, decided to start his own company and Marv followed him over to his company Hamm Equipment, Inc. Marv continued to do a few jobs for Hamm Equipment until his illness, but was primarily focused the last few years on moving back to Grindstone to operate the small ranch that had been in the family since 1907 (when his great-grandparents George McClure homesteaded it).
Marvin has made his home in Casper for a number of years, but always looked forward to coffee at Rich Smith’s, when he made it home to the ranch near Philip. Marvin was a hard worker, and able to fix anything that needed repairs. Marvin also became quite a gardener, and enjoyed canning his produce he raised.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his mother Beverly McDaniel of Quinn, South Dakota; three sisters Kerry Wahlquist and her husband Peter of Las Vegas, Nevada, Kathy McDaniel of Rapid City, and Patricia Hauk and her husband Phillip of Piedmont; nephew Sean Wahlquist and niece Kersey Wahlquist both of Las Vegas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Marvin was preceded in death by his father Fred McDaniel on April 6, 2005.
Memorial services were held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 2, at the American Legion Hall in Philip, with Pastor Frezil Westerlund officiating.
Interment was at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip.

Please know I have thought of you and prayed for you ever since I heard that Marvin became ill. He was one of the smartest men I have ever met in my life. He was way above the rest of us on this planet, amazing person and friend. My prayers and thoughts will continue to be with you throughout this painful time. Yes, Marvin, was too young, but know you all did everything that you possibly could do to help him when he was so sick. Although, it is hard to think in this way, but he no longer suffers and he is indeed with those way above us here on earth. My condolences to each of you and may God and Marvin's deceased loved ones have now greeted him at the gates of heaven. God please bless him as he makes this passage. Char

Bev and girls. I was so sorry to hear about Marvin. What a young life to come to an end. Arley had been keeping us abreast of his condition and the last I heard he had a long up hill battle. He was at dad several months ago and had coffee with us. I enjoyed the visit. I hadn't seen him since high school. He really looked like his dad. I am so sorry for you loss. I will be praying for solace for all of you. Barb Coy
