Mary June Penticoffof Murdo, South Dakota, died on Saturday, April 19, 2014

Mary June (O’Reilly) Penticoff was born on June 17, 1929 in Philip, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Edna (Herrman) O’Reilly. She grew up in Philip and graduated from Philip High School. Mary June worked as a telephone operator, a bookkeeper for Farmers Union Oil Company, a Deputy Treasurer/Officer, a dress shop clerk in Los Angeles, California, and worked for West Central Electric Company. In her later years, she babysat her grandchildren and several other children. She became "grandma" to many children over the years.
Mary June was united in marriage to John “Pete” Penticoff Jr. on February 22, 1957. To this union, nine children were born: Joe, Jeff, Julie, Jay, Jill, Janet, Jane, Jean and Jackie. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Mary June will be remembered by many as a very warm, loving and giving lady. She loved watching her children and grandchildren play sports, enjoyed playing cards, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was great with puns.
Grateful for sharing her life include her nine children Joe Penticoff of Murdo, Jeff Penticoff (Kelly) of Philip, Julie Elrod (Jerry) of Pierre, Jay Penticoff (Deb) of Summerset, Jill Dean (Greg) of Pierre, Janet Penticoff of Pierre, Jane Springer (Sam) of Murdo, Jean Penticoff of Murdo, and Jackie Waggoner (Rubin) of Pierre; three step-children Mick Penticoff (Marilyn) of Sioux Falls, Pat Bechard (Don) of Hermosa, and Sheila Christoph of Rapid City; 16 grandchildren, Nathan Penticoff, Patrick Penticoff (Marisa), Michael Penticoff (Rechelle), Daniel Penticoff, Jennifer Rattling Leaf (Rob), Jason Elrod (Kari), Justin Elrod, Dawson Penticoff, Blake Dean, Bradley Dean, Bennett Dean, Mackenzie Springer, Peige Springer, Angelina Noble, Jina Waggoner, John Waggoner (Olivia); two great-grandchildren, Taya Rattling Leaf and Maxon Penticoff; eight step-grandchildren; sister Dolores Hansen of Los Angeles, California; sister-in-law Maureen O'Reilly of Billings, Montana; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mary June was preceded in death by her parents John and Edna O’Reilly; her husband John “Pete” Penticoff Jr.; three brothers Francis (Grace), Loren (Maxine), and Jack O’Reilly; one sister Marguerite Marshall (Wayne); and a brother-in-law Don Hansen.
Visitation was held 5-7 p.m. CDT Friday, April 25, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Murdo, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.CDT
Mass of Christian Burial was held 11:00 a.m. CDT Saturday, April 26, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Murdo, with Father Gary Oreshoski as celebrant.
Interment will be at a later date at the Murdo Cemetery.
